4-Year-Old Irish Dancer Enters Ballroom — Brings House Down With Electric Traditional Moves

When we think of Irish dancing, fancy footwork and lively music come to mind. Most of us don’t have the training or talent to do an Irish Reel well. But one 4-year-old girl — nicknamed “McCutie Tiny Irish Dancer” — wowed audiences with her excellent Irish dances in a video from 2010.

On a wooden dance floor, a 4-year-old named Lucy stands ready to perform her dance routine. She’s dressed neatly in a white shirt, navy blue skirt, white knee socks, and soft black Irish dancing shoes. Her blonde hair is pulled up in a curly ponytail.

Standing in position ready to dance, the young dancer answers questions from the announcer who holds a microphone. She has earned trophies at two competitions, according to the video. As she finishes introducing the dance and the dancer, the announcer comments that we might just be seeing a future world champion here.

As the jaunty music starts playing, the audience claps in time. The young dancer waits for the precise moment when her dance routine begins. And then begin she does!

With beautiful technique, the little Irish dancer skips and hops in a routine she knows well. The pointing and tapping of heels and toes, the appreciative audience clapping along, and the awesome energy of a well-danced routine make for a mesmerizing scene.

On stage among an impressed audience, this 4-year-old dances beautifully, in perfect time to the music, and with excellent technique. Then she bows simply and walks offstage without fanfare. The crowd goes wild with applause, and the little dancer turns and bows one more time.

When you consider that most preschoolers are doing well just to clap in time to music, this little girl’s precise and complex dancing is even more impressive. Watching her dance feels like watching a miniature professional.

It’s refreshing and impressive to watch such talent and dedication in a performer who is so young. She seems to know her dance routines, and she seems to enjoy doing them well. One would guess that she’s got some encouraging teachers and family members.

What do you think of this little Irish dancer’s performance? Have you ever tried dancing an Irish Reel? Do you know any young and talented dancers? Who do you know that would love to see this performance? Let them know about it, and let us know what you think of it!
