After 6-year-old Miela Kroenke’s dance recital was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Nebraska dance studio asked students to teach one of their parents a routine, as a bit of a fun challenge. Instead of asking her mother, young Miela asked her State Trooper father, Lt. Tyler Kroenke, and the video of their performance is sure to brighten your day.
Miela is dressed as Wonder Woman while her dad is wearing his work uniform along with an eye mask and cape. Set to Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For a Hero, the video is so sweet, and Lt. Kroenke even managed to keep up with his daughter! The video starts with Miela and Tyler with their backs to the camera, with both of their superhero capes taking center stage. When they turn around and face towards the camera, Bonnie Tyler begins singing: “I need a hero!” And what heroes they are! At least, they look the part. This reference is made even better because besides the cape, Tyler is wearing his State Trooper uniform –– he’s a hero in multiple ways evidently.
The performance is too adorable for words. Miela is clearly leading the moves, and while Tyler isn’t quite as limber or fast as his young girl, it’s clear he knows what he’s doing and has dedicated time in learning her routine, which took him one week to learn. Using the empty room in lieu of a stage, the two of them traverse the space, kicking their legs in the air, performing twirls, and even rolls on the ground! Lt. Kroenke, 31, told Today Parents: “It’s the least I could do for her. Dance is her favorite thing in the world.” He added that “Miela is a perfectionist and got on me quite a bit. The blooper reel is probably better than the actual video!” Wouldn’t that be a delight to see!
Local news station 1011 Now reported that Lt. Kroenke wanted the video to go public, to help bring some light in these tough times we’re facing during the coronavirus pandemic, saying that he’d take it at his expense –– what a good sense of humor and spirit.
The video, which was shared on Facebook by the Nebraska State Patrol, has had over 770K views. It’s absolutely heartwarming to see a parent believe in their child’s dream so much, that they’d do anything to make them happy. Not only that, but to allow the video to go public, to help us all in this time of need, we could all use some of Lt. Kroenke’s good nature and kind spirit to get us through.
